Mississippi Department Of Transportation has submitted the bridge over Bay St Louis to Pass Christian, MS for a bridge design award for 2008. The design, construction and miraculous completion of this bridge, which was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, is a true testament to the dedication of each individual that contributed to this project. Artwork depicting the individuality of each community was carved into the entrance beams on both the Bay St Louis, Hancock County MS side and the Henderson Point/Pass Christian, Harrison County, MS side. The story of the endless hours of hard labor, sweat, love and commitment made by each person to restore a vital life link for both counties, businesses, citizens and most importantly restoring some normalcy after the storm. We wish the state of Mississippi Department of Transportation the recognition it truly deserves!
BaySt LouisBridge opened May 17, 2007 after being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005.
Opening the bridge celebrated an unforgettable journey by tens of thousands of residents along WestMississippiGulfCoast and thousands of heroic volunteers from all over the United States and abroad. The most remarkable element of this recovery is the strength and character of the people that are living this journey. We welcome all that come to visit, volunteer, live and work here.Thanks!
